Johnson said the new headset, which is intended for enterprise customers, will be lighter and have an improved. ![]() They do make it viable, however, for the type of AR experiences we've seen demonstrated with early mockups of what the product's OS will look like, including panels that "pop up" into view when overlaid on real items in your viewing space. From a report: In an interview with Protocol published on Tuesday, CEO Peggy Johnson said the Magic Leap 2 will be released through an early adopter program at the end of this year and will be more generally available in early 2022. Unfortunately, these specs do make the unit much less attractive for anyone looking for more immersive virtual reality experiences. At 110 inches away, a 90-inch widescreen TV would be fully visible, and at 144 inches you could see a family of three 6-foot-tall humans standing side by side. Augmented reality (AR) firm Magic Leap has revealed the second version of its headset, alongside 500m in new investment. The Magic Leap 2 is the smallest and lightest augmented reality device built for the enterprise, said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Magic Leap. At 75 inches away, a standing large dog like a labrador would be fully visible. During this period, Magic Leap continued to refine and improve the device for training, communication, remote assistance use cases in clinical settings, industrial environments, defense, and retail stores. The official documentation describes the viewing frustum, as it's coined, as being able to view a large house cat at 40 inches away. This means that the Magic Leap One's FoV is about 4:3 aspect ratio, and one-third larger than that of Microsoft's HoloLens. The text, which normally has just "Coming soon on launch day!", includes the final text, which lists the horizontal FoV value as 40 degrees, vertical 30 degrees, and diagonal of 50 degrees. UploadVR reports that Magic Leap has poached Jeff Gattis, the global marketing head of HTCs Vive, a virtual reality headset expected to ship by the end of the. Well, actually, Magic Leap hasn't done so. The creator edition of Magic Leap One, however, is slated for a 2018 release - provided no delays occur. After keeping its product shrouded in mystery for quite some time, Magic Leap has finally revealed one of the most important aspects of its upcoming AR headset: the FoV, or field of view, that consumers can expect. Magic Leap has been showing off its headset to a bunch of users, but there's been no detailed reviews about the headset since they're all under nondisclosure agreements, save for a highly interesting preview Pitchfork released in December 2017. "We'll have even higher-end for hyper-pro, and then we'll have wide mass-market" editions, according to Abovitz. The creator edition of Magic Leap One is positioned somewhere in the middle of Magic Leap's overall price range. "I think we're trying to establish certain tiers - we're not going to be a single-product company over time," said Abovitz at the Code Media conference. However, Abovitz didn't bat his eyes at the mention of whether the headset will cost as much as a $1,000 iPhone X. Magic Leap is planning to release multiple editions of its headset for different levels of consumers and professionals, and the cheapest headset will cost as much as a "higher-end mobile phone to a higher-end tablet." That puts it around $650 and up, perhaps slightly lower. No information about the other sizes, though. Second, the company has seemingly confirmed that there will be multiple sizes available for its headset, including a "Magic Leap Large" variant that fits the head of Shaquille O'Neal. These screens can display statistics, replays, and even commentary - all while the user is tuned to the game. Part of the partnership is a new NBA app that'll be available exclusively through the Magic Leap One platform, which will let users bring up multiple virtual screens into their field of view.
